This past weekend I shot a set for a good friend at the U.S. National Beach Tennis Championships. For those who are unfamiliar with beach tennis (which I admittedly was before this past Sunday), beach tennis really is just a beach volleyball and tennis hybrid where the tennis ball isn't permitted to hit the ground.
As the day progressed, the ball girls came out in force. Particularly, at center court, four girls, one posted at each of the corners of the court were present, shaking what their mommas gave them. Granted, the girls proved to be quite the distraction for many of the male audience, and perhaps some of the female audience as well. One girl in particular stood out though. Simply put, she was the most attractive of the ball girls. As I watched the game go on, one thought stood out in my memory: this was clearly an unfair advantage. Any red-blooded male player on court would obviously be attracted to this ball girl. The other girls couldn't be as distracting as this one if they tried while she just stood there. So was there a clear disadvantage for the players who were playing facing this girl and a advantage given to the team with her on their side? I believed so. I'm definitely not opposed to the idea of having ball girls, but, I don't think this was fair. At all. What do you think?
