I don't see whats so wonderful about lions; thieving, scavenging, adulterous, gluttonous, cowardly animals that they are. For thousands of years we have visualized this big cat as the king of the beasts; noble, proud, honorable, all of it hogwash. Male lions are by far the most cruel and unintelligent animals I have ever read about. Stealing food from weaker predators like African Wild Dogs, chasing off vultures, killing the cubs of other lions so that their mothers may become receptive, sending lionesses off to do all the hunting so that he may not risk a single hair on his mane.
By comparison, the Hyena is a truly noble animal; a successful and cunning hunter using sophisticated stalking and killing strategies. Opportunistic and capable of consuming nearly 100% of a carcass (bones included) so that nothing is wasted. Dominant females rule over family packs, and pups are communally raised by every member of their family groups.
The Hyena's loyalty and playful nature have even lead people to take on them on as pets, finding them to become like one of the family(providing they can stand the smell).
