Red Lanterns - Rage

The Red Lanterns like all Lanterns must recharge their rings and when they do their oath goes as follows:



With blood and Rage of Crimson Red

Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead

Together with our hellish hate

We'll burn you all...

That is your fate



In the Green Lantern Universe the Red Lanterns represent the red light, which represent rage in the emotion spectrum. In the comics, all of those part of the Red Lantern Corps are consumed by their own rage, hate or wrath. It makes sense, that hate, or rather rage at times consumes all of us. It's a basic emotion, not one we can control if allowed to go beyond a certain point. I think rage is present in all our lives, it can spring from anger, saddness, envy, hate, etc its' the result of these things if left unchecked. When we feed ourselves with nothing more than negative emotion all consuming rage can be the result. Usually emotion have a certain kind of yin yang to it, a balance. Most emotions can be either positive or negative depending on the way its' concentrated. For example, self assurance gives one confidence which is good but too much make one arrogant, a nagative quality.

Rage, however, is one of tose rare qualities which seems to always be a negative, despite the situation. No good can ever come from hatred, however its' a national instinct to cling to the emotion. I always fought against this emotion, whenever I felt this emotion growing stronger in me, I would clear my mind and think clearly of the situation. With a rational mind, despite where this rage comes from, one will always see that it will lead no where and best solved in a more peaceful manner.
