Tech-no-logy

Although I am usually zipping around campus on my skateboard I do like to observe my surroundings, specifically, the people I pass. I often times attempt to make friendly eye contact with those I cross paths with but it seems like every year there are less eyes to greet with a smile. There are just as many people here, if not more, but everyone is glued to phone texting. They are sometimes barely aware that they are walking into traffic let alone a skateboard coming their way. This bothers me because there are thousands of people here and it seems like none of them interact face to face, they all operate through a screen. Is this the way things are going to be? Headphones lodged in the ears, volume on high, eyes on the phone texting and drifting around like a drones or zombies completely unaware of our surroundings. I don't get it.
