"Last year, the New York Civil Liberties Union released a report, by Harry Levine and Deborah Small, showing that New York City arrests more people on marijuana charges than any city on Earth. The report's authors found that since 1997, city police have arrested hundreds of thousands of people for low-level, misdemeanor marijuana possession offenses."
This pissed me off so much. I've run into trouble with the law over the exact same issue that's discussed in this article (actually a friend of mine posted this on my facebook wall yesterday! talk about irony!) I don't understand the effectiveness over arresting someone for a little bit of marijuana, when you've got way bigger issues to deal with on the "scary" streets of New York. You get locked up for like 22 hours, and when you come out of bookings are you supposed to say "Fuck weed! I'm gonna be clean for the rest of my life now! Hoorayyyy!" When they arrest you the cops tell you that nothing is going to happen! They say you'll spend the night in jail, and the judge will say "Hey! Dont do that again!" and he slaps you on the wrist. That's a fucking joke man....why even go through that whole unnecessary process if the law even knows it aint a big deal.
I mean the damn plant grows naturally!! Naturally I say! How you gonna arrest someone for weed when it kills NO ONE on a regular basis..........meanwhile alcohol is legal if you are over 21.....but you can overdose on alchohol!! Does that make any sense to anyone? I can drive high, but there's no way I can drive drunk! lol. Why can't New York be more like Cali where they are actually active in taking steps to decriminalize mary jane. Anyone have any thoughts??
