New Wall in Buenos Aires by Jaz

Local street artist Jaz recently blessed a city wall in Buenos Aires with a super-jumbo sized piece in his signature fluid style. You can tell by the picture below that this thing is HUGE. Medicom x Chogokin Bearbrick

With recent collabos with Chiaki Kuriyama and Gettry, Japanese toy giant Medicom is showing no sign of gettin out of the Be@rbrick game any time soon. For their latest offering, Medicom has released a chromed out 200% bear inspired by Japan's legendary Chogokin toys. This 6 inch tall Bearbrick retails for $150.

Art Basel MIAMI

Each year during the first week of December, the art/cool guy world descends on Miami to party its ass off look at cool art and the awesome world of Miami “fashion”. This year was no exception. Complex got a little preview of some of the best stuff to check out, and between the new Audi A8, Kaws and KR at O.H.W.O.W. and some of the crazier baller stuff at Basel, this year did not disappoint.

NIKE SB x HUF

To celebrate the launch of the Nike SB x HUF Blazer Premium Capsule Collection, the guys at HUF took to the streets of San Francisco with Nike SB rider, Omar Salazar. The crew captured Omar hill bombing down the streets of San Francisco wearing various pieces from the upcoming capsule collection. The photography was shot by Keith Hufnagel himself while the video was shot and edited by Marty Reigel.

ARGHH! PROCRASTINATION!

I hate procrastinating when it comes to my school work but somehow I always manage to get myself in these situations! Especially when it comes to projects where it requires me to do more than just open a book and study for a test. Although I love expressing my creativity through a visual or audio medium, sometimes I feel as if I have to compromise my work because of my procrastination. But I will overcome this disease that I am suffering from and finish this semester off on a high note. These past two weeks I have been feverishly working on finishing up a website in Dreamweaver, my documentary film for this class, and my fictional film which I will be presenting at MonkeyTown at the end of the semeter. But that's not the end of it, because every day I go to class there's some more work that's piled upon my already full plate...

Michael Lau

Michael Lau, is an artist from Hong Kong who is known for his illustration and vinyl figures. Lau is widely credited as the founder of the urban vinyl style within the designer toy movement. His work has had a significant effect on toy manufacturers, as well as street culture, including artists and musicians, throughout the world. His style is particularly influential to Asian and American hip-hop and skateboarding culture. Lau has won several awards for his work, including four from the Hong Kong-based Philippe Charriol Foundation.

HALLOWEEN!

This year I'm ready for Halloween. I got my costume already, got my plans made up, and I guarantee it will be better than last year's last minute Halloween festivities. Last year i thought it'd be a good idea to dress up as a Dutchmaster....you know the 4 guys on the box of Dutchmasters.

It was supposed to be me and my 3 stoner friends all dressed up like the "pilgrim" looking dudes on the box....but because we didn't plan ahead 2 of them dropped out. So it was just me and my boy Bryan and on the day OF halloween we managed to conjure up some RANDOM ass pieces of clothing for our costume. It consisted of a black shall, a black cape, 2 hats (1 pilgrim hat and 1 Zorro hat!) and thats it. We looked so ghetto that no1 knew of our original intentions to be a Dutchmaster....every1 thought we just looked like pilgrims....BUT this year Ima definitely do it up better. Me and my friend Marcel are gonna go as everyone's favorite stoner...Cheech and Chong!! It's gonna be so awesome. Im gonna shop at a thrift store for our gear, Marcel already has the Cheech mustache growin in, and I have to hit up a beard and wig store for my Chong ensemble. And we're goin to a VICE magazine party in Willyburg thats gonna be sick! A free open bar all nite, Bad Brains and Peanut Butter Wolf are performing as well as other bands, a skate mini ramp INISDE the loft which spans 2 floors! It's gonna be a fun nite indeed! =D

Phoenix

This band is fucking awesome. Phoenix is a French alternative rock band that started during their childhood by Thomas Mars, Deck D'Arcy, Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Brancowitz in the suburb of Versailles. The guitarist Laurent Brancowitz used to be part of a short lived Beach Boys-inspired guitar group called Darlin'. The band consisted of his friends Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and himself. After releasing their songs on Duophonic, a review in the British music magazine Melody Maker called the music "a bunch of daft punk." Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo decided to create Daft Punk in 1993 as Brancowitz joined forces with Phoenix.

I only heard about them last week, and I'm not proud to say it. They released their latest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix in May of 2009 and toured a whole bunch throughout the summer. They even played in Brooklyn too at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and I missed it! oh well I guess I'll just have to wait til they come to the US again....hopefully sometime soon! Definitely check them out cuz their def worth listening to.

ARTIST BIO: KAWS

KAWS has been one of the most prominent figures in the world of art and graffiti. In the past decade he went from being a graffiti artist who was bombing the streets of NY and NJ to the successful entrepreneur that he is today. He has recently opened up OriginalFake, which is a collaborative project with Medicom Toy out in Japan. He has turned his famous logos and art from his past days as a graffiti writer into a corporate logo for his business. He produces everything from vinyl figures to clothing to skateboards to just about any other canvas he can put his icons on. Here are some of the famous works he has produced in his career.

KAWS 4 Foot Companion - This is the staple KAWS symbol. This character is basically an original KAWS design head that's on top of a Mickey Mouse body. This one is REAL expensive with a retail price of $6000 and limited to only 100 pieces.


KAWS Darth Vader - Only 1000 of these figures were made, originally costing $150 at OriginalFake in Tokyo. Resell value - upwards of $500. This is an official Star Wars licensed product.


KAWS Spongebob - KAWS unveiled this piece at his gallery exhibitio in NYC last year. This is KAWS taking a stab at modern pop culture with his rendition of everyone's favorite sponge.


KAWS Kimpsons - KAWS x The Simpsons. The Simpsons were the first cartoon to get the KAWS treatment.


KAWS Companion Dissected - With this vinyl figure you get to see the inner working of the famous companion figure.


Some original KAWS graffiti dating back to 97. As you can that's the original design of his Companion figure.

OriginalFake x Levi - This collaboration with KAWS' clothing brand OriginalFake and Levi's was released in super limited quantities. KAWS uses his Chomper graphic in this project.


KAWS Chum - This character, who resembles the Michelin Tire man, is plastered over a regular bus stop. KAWS used to not only use spray paint back in the day, but he would also go around putting his famous characters over billboards and regular street signs. Little did he know that his graffiti at the time would later be showcased in art galleries around the world.

HAROLD HUNTER DAY 3

It's been 3 years since the passing of NYC street skate legend Harold Hunter. He was a guy that everybody who was in that scene seemed to know. And when i say "scene" i mean the skate scene that flourished in the early 90's. I knew Harold Hunter personally through my older brother who at that time was heavy in the LES downtown skate scene. Harold was definitely a character, which is why his name still lives on til this day. He was such a personable, outgoing individual, who was an extremely talented skater as well. Unfortunately with the lifestyle that he lived in, their was a dark side to Harold that followed him to his grave. His addiction to partying, drinking, and drugs led him to live a short life with his death on February 17, 2006. He was found in his LES apartment due to an overdose of drugs which caused his heart to stop. Legends never die Harold. Every October we get together and skate in your name. Here are some pics of Harold Hunter Day 3 that occurred at the Manhattan Bridge Skate Park in the LES. Check em out!
