I'm a Big Kid Now

I am always wondering what little kids are thinking about. You wonder how they view this big and scary world around them. You wonder what their concerns are or even what they think of you. And most importantly I wonder why life can't be as simple as theirs anymore. My two nieces about 3 and 4 came by today for a little visit. I have played and babysat them countless times, yet every single time I see them it is as if I am meeting them for the very first time. They are shy and timid...afraid to explore around them even with the okay from their mom. I was watching them as they played with their hair and clung on to their moms leg like their lives depended on it. They seem to be content with their mommy's hand and a pretty new object to play with. I wonder as they look at me with eyes of curiosity, what they are thinking, how they perceive the world. I think that things for them are simple..not knowing the things they will have to worry about later on in their lives. Money is the last thing on their mind. Organic chem is just a word that they don't know yet and the basics of survival is not yet learned. I wish life can be as simple as theirs...but oh well back to reality...
