Technology Will Be the Death of Us One Day

Don't get me wrong...I love my phone! Some call me a texting maniac. I am always on my phone, which I think is starting to become a little bit of a problem...I can't text and hold a conversation with the people around me. I can't multitask those two things like other people can or I start texting what I am saying or want to say to those around me. So I am kind of in my own world sometimes when I am texting or on the phone. I involuntarily take myself out of the scene I am in for those couple of seconds that I am taking to respond. I am constantly jumping in and out of both worlds. But I can't help it. Technology nowadays is hypocritical and conflicting. It both connects and disconnects us to the world around us. Texting may give you a temporary satisfaction that you are connecting to the person on the other side but it does not take presidence over having one on one interaction with that person. I miss those days where I would spend hours on the phone but nowadays texting seems to be just enough for some people. So are we really maintaining that relationship through the text messages that we send? Does it show that we really care or that we are really communicating? I don't know. Well...yes and no.

Its really hard to say. What aggravates me the most is the large scale of miscommunication that happens using these devices. Someone might read the tone in the message wrong and tension starts to build up or someone's perspective of that person changes. There are too many questions floating around. What if they meant it like this? Are they joking? Are they serious? Sometimes I feel disconnected and I need my phone to feel reconnected again but that only makes my life more fragmented. People depend too much on technology as the answer. What happened to the good ol letter and stamp. But let's not be negative because I think the cell phone is the best innovation in the world.
