9: Fritz the Cat 1972
The 60's...happy times, hard times. they say an opening line can say alot about a film, but that one doesnt even scratch the surface of this animated asylum. sex, drugs, sex, music, sex, racial tension, sex, violence, sex, satanism, sex, self discovery, and of course, a whole lot of hanky panky. Harry Crumb's comics come to life in this absurd animated feature, which pokes fun at the everyday life in 60's new york city. Fritz is cat, a moot point, and student at NYU who burns down the school in a fit of academic frustration. he therefore embarks on a personal journey to "live life to its fullest!" leading him to misadventures involving both white and black supremecists, satanist bikers, orgies(yes interspecies orgies), and a whole lot of hallucegins.
Crumb to many is a comic genius, or a certified loon; there is no room for middle ground! a real ground breaker in my opion for the portayl of sex and drugs(two of some of my favorite things)in film, as well as violence and racism...ALL IN ANIMATION NO LESS! FUN FACT: Fritz the Cat was the first ever X-rated animated film(soon to be followed up by its sequel The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat). Depravity aside(if i MUST put them aside)the film also has an amazing soundtrack, a tasty blend of motown, jazz, and hippie rock n' roll. think about it.
