Word Wars
I just watched this documentary called Word Wars. It's about people who enter Scrabble competitions and compete with some of the world's greatest Scrabble players. It's crazy to see how much of a subculture there is in the Scrabble universe. These people took their Scrabble very seriously and rightfully so because this is the way some of them made their living. Some of the people that the film makers were basing their documentary on had no real jobs. Their only source of income came from winning Scrabble tournaments. They followed this one guy named Marlon who lived in a ghetto in East Baltimore. He had no job, other than entering and winning Scrabble tournaments. Even if he does well in these tournaments, he still doesn't make an exorbitant amount of money. I think the highest amount of money you can win in a Scrabble tournament is by coming in first place in the Scrabble tournament that is sponsored by Hasboro (the company that makes Scrabble). First prize in this tournament is $25,000. So, you can see how being a professional Scrabble player is not a lucrative career. But boy are they good at Scrabble. You should check this film out.
