So, New Moon broke box office records, beating out Dark Knight and HarryPotter for beggiest opening show. This craze for New Moon is, crazy. Not to say that the film is bad (I have yet to see it but Twilight was entertaining) however after knowing the story a little more, it is over rated. This isn't just for the film, this goes for the books as well, there are no subplots or any depth in the story, it is simply a love story in a interesting universe and nothing more. The story seems simple to me, just in case you don't know what the film is about, I'm going to tell you:
It's about a confused girl (aren't they all) who can't get over her ex-boyfriend (who abandoned her by the way yet she "still loves him"). While in her depression she cling to the good guy (and since he's the good guy and not the bad boy like her ex, he gets put in the friendzone). Like all good guys who get puts in the friendzone, he do everything right and still don't get the girl. And like all girls who have that "guy friend" in the friend zone she only calls him because she is lonely and needs the attention.
Now tell me you haven't heard this story a million times already. So the author had to know this was not original and tried to spice it up a bit. The bad boy ex boyfriend is a vampire and the good guy in the friendzone is a werewolf with the girl in the middle. This too would had been interesting had it not been done a million times as well (any love story that reflects Romeo and Juliet did this, and that is alot of stories). So the author goes one step further in her effort to make her book original and makes the main character (the girl) "complex". Too bad her idea of complex was confused which the main character is, which is something us not new either. Seriously what girl isn't confused (and I don't mean that in a bad way but in a good way, that is, if it can be said in a good way). Now a rational person would see this and say, "the story is cool but not extraodinary". However majority of the fan base are girls and they understand this "complex character" (wow what a big surprise) and now this film is overrated. But good job to the filmmakers who know their audience all to well, they knew to pick lead actors who could generate a large group of "gropies", whom are more the fans of the actors than the actually film.
