Ignorance

So I just finished reading the play The Laramie Project and the one thing that came to mind throughout the entire play was I can't believe how ignorant some people are. I didn't really know that much detail about the Matthew Shepard tragedy (he was a 19 year old gay man beaten and left to die tied to a fence in Wyoming) but this play tells this story very well. It is not preachy about what is right and wrong it just states what happens to a small town that has to go through a horrible tragedy. Matthew Shepard's incident did not just affect Wyoming but it hit the nation too. The Tectonic theater company created this play by interviewing over 200 people and it is their exact words that form the play. I would suggest everyone read this play, but expect to cry, whether or not you believe homosexuality is right or wrong. It goes way deeper than the initial crime, it makes you think why people do these things and how these crimes affect a town. It if just horrible how people can treat another human being just because he believes in something different and I hope and pray one day people will stop being so ignorant.
