I often judge movies less on their content and more on the hype that surrounds them. If there is a lot of hype surrounding a movie and it turns out to just be OK, I will tell anyone who asks if they should go see it that it was not that good and they shouldn't waste their time. On the other hand, if a movie as little hype or bad reviews and it turns out to be OK, I will tell anyone who asks if they should go see it that it was surprisingly good and definitely worth checking out. This is probably the reason I never care to see any movie that's deemed Oscar worthy or has won an Oscar. It will probably just turn out to be a boring love story starring a-way-too-skinny actress.
