step aside Lucy, here comes Ardi...
i just read an article today that scientists found an earlier hominid, Ardi, who lived 4.4 million years ago in Ethiopia. we also discussed this finding in class today in my anthropology class because it was went against common belief that humans evolved from chimps or chimp like creature. but according to this article and the scientists who have been studying Ardi since 1994, this new finding gives a new hypothesis that chimps and humans had a common ancestor but evolved in separate ways. i find it very interesting when anthropologists find new evidence that can help us better understand who we are and where we came from. i know that even though evolution is a popular belief, many people just don't believe in that especially those that are religious. i have a friend who doesn't think it's even plausible that humans had a common ancestor with chimps and he refuses to even acknowledge evolution. then again, his religion says that God created man and all creatures on earth.
