So I got an interview with Newsday! I had the interview with the HR at their headquarters in melville. it went great and he offered me 3 potential career positions.
I applied for newsday at the job fair a couple weeks ago. It finally paid off, because i came all the way out from stony and skipped class to go to that job fair. Anyway, he offered me a position for their sales planner, in the advertising dept. a position in the Community team to do promotions. and a position within the interactive marketing dept. Next step is to apply online and to set up an interview with the manager. I really do want this job. it is something i would love doing and it is near home.

first interview
I just had my first interview today. I drove to the office and got there 15 min early. I rang the door bell like the sign says to and i got no response. I am standing outside in the windy morning and I am getting cold. I then rang it again and I got a response this time. The lady on the other line says "hi" and I say Hi back. She was expecting me to state my reason for being there and I just stood there. She then replies "who are you!?" in a rude manner.
I say "stephanie, i'm here to interview with ed."
She comes to open the door for me. I was a little annoyed that I got treated that way just to get into the interview. She insures me that she told Ed i was there and he will be with me. It is now 950 and I sit down waiting in the waiting room. I look around and see a binder full of information. I take a glance at it and before I know it it is 915! Ed finally comes out and greets me with no sorry for being late. Whatever. Now im more annoyed.
But i have to brush all emotions aside and put on a "happy to be here face".
I go flying through the interview... he tells me that I did great and he will set up another interview at a different location. He asked me to sign a criminal background check and all that so I think i pretty much got the job. I just wrote him a thank you letter through email and he hasn't emailed me when the next interview will be but hopefully it will go just as well.

phone interview..is just the beginning
with all these technologies we go through a big process just to get the job we want.
I first posted my resume on the website www.monster.com using the internet.
Then I received an email from a company telling me to call or email them back about a position they have for me.
Next I go to the job fair and see the man who emailed me and talk to him from there.
He emails me back that day and asks to set up a phone interview.
I email back with my availability.
He confirms the date and time through an email.
I receive a phone call from him.
He concludes with requesting a face to face interview.
I now have to go to see him and another top manager on friday to interview again!
I get an email to comfirm the phone interview and next week's face to face interview.
I email him back with a Thank you email.
*So exhausted already! and i don't have the position yet!
*plus, the email stated that this friday will be my FIRST interview.
o geeze.

unsuccessful job fairs but new friends part 1
So tuesday night i went home on the train with my sister to get a good night sleep and prepare for the job fairs near my home. My sister gets out of class late at night, and we pack and go to the train station on campus. On the bus going through the rail road parking lot we pass by ten suffolk policemen cars and policemen. Some crime must have been committed because there were 3 guys handcuffed and sitting in silent on the ground with their backs against a parked car. And across was another car with 2 guys standing outside of it talking to policemen.
Anyways we thought after being stuck behind this blockade we would miss our train. But we got there with enough time to purchase our tickets and make a new friend. As we walk away from the ticket booths this guy comes up to us and asks if we have change for a 20$ to put in the machine, so he would not get coins back. I didn't have any cash on me, so i said no, and told him to use a card instead. He said he didn't want to and my sister told him to exchange the coins at the station later when he gets off. He took her advise and we walked towards the platform.
As we stand there waiting for the train, the same guy approaches us and thanks us for before. I again apologize. He then out of the blue asks what our majors are. I thought of it a little strange to start a convo/pickup line along the lines of that. I answered, "business". and he turns to my sister and she goes "business". then he got all excited, and ignored my sisters question when she asked him back. He goes "I am a business minor, and I need to find a easy business class to graduate. I am a computer science major and I have a 4.0. I do not want to mess that average up taking a hard business class." Impressed I gave him some advise. More un-traditional he then asked for our email addresses, and then our names. The train comes and he tells us how he has a two hour commute back home. Only I didn't hear that my sister told me. He had a strong Indian accent it was difficult for me to understand everything he said. As we broad the train we went for the top deck and he sat at the bottom. I would of sat with him and continued our conversation but i had a lot of reading to get done in my hour ride home.

decisions, decisions, decisions...
everyday, we all have to make decisions whether they're good or bad. at the heat of the moment, you think you're making the right one but after some time to think about it, you wonder if you actually made the right choice. yesterday, instead of going to my job, i had someone else take my shift so that i could go out with my friends. my intentions the whole day was to actually go but after practice at 9pm, everyone decided to go out. not wanting to miss the fun since everyone was going, i started making so many calls to get someone to cover for me. well, i'll have to admit it, if i didn't go, i would've missed a great time. but when i was brushing this morning, i started thinking. i need to make better choices next time because i had a responsibility yesterday and i just blew it off. i think it was a combination of peer pressure and the fact that i would be having a great time that ultimately pushed me into making a hasty decision to forgo my shift. i guess this is a life lesson we'll all experience in college.
btw, i got back to my room at around 3:45 am and i can't believe i actually made it to my 8:30 bio class.

6 more to add...
69. Do you see a thorough line to your grandparents?
Yes. I can draw the family tree that starts with both sets of my grandparents and goes through my uncles, aunts cousins, parents and my sibling. even though I can draw the family tree, I don't know all of my relatives by face because I haven't met all of them.
70. Were you close to them?
Unfortunately, I wasn't close to my grandparents. I never met my father's parents because they died when he was very young and I only met my mother's mom when I visited her in Malaysia in 7th grade. Some people are lucky enough to have grandparents who live in this country or even in the same city as them. They can visit their grandparents basically anytime they want. I have to take a 20 hour plane ride to see my one grandparent.
87. Do you think society makes a big deal of..... Of divorce?
We were talking about this subject in class. The statistic is that at least fifty percent of all marriages end up in divorce. Divorce nowadays is not that big of a deal. Back in the days of our grandparents, it was looked down upon for people to get divorced; it was highly discouraged. I feel like it is now socially accepted to divorce. In a class of 30 students, you can find at least 3-5 students whose parents are divorced. I guess it's not really "til death do us part".
146. Would you expect your spouse or your child to ‘get up and move with you’? For the next best job?
If it is my dream job or career, then yes. I would get up and move if I didn't have my dream job but my spouse was about to get one. Family comes first and staying together is important. Getting up and moving for a dream job is understandable.
147. To keep a job?
It depends on the job. If it is absolutely necessary, then I would expect them to move. But if my spouse had a decent, stable job then I would let the job go and try to find another one.
148. To even be employed?
Yes, if it means being employed then definitely yes because it is out of necessity. In a time of recession and a high unemployment rate, it is very important to be employed. If either move and keep the job or be jobless and have no money. You can't live comfortably if you don't have a job.

i need a jobb ...
I work at the math/physics library two days a week and due to cuts and the present state of the economy the school which i pay out of my butt to be in decided that i only need to work two hours a day ... two hours a day!!!! that's fours hours a week for all of the calc majors out there. How can someone call four hours a week at minimum wage a job!
- i feel like everyone is looking for a job. People who have already finished college can't even find a job now a days ... i wish the economy was better .. money didn't matter .. and everyone wasn't money obsessed.
