Plato never really speaks in the Republic but uses Socrates to say, "You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."
This is so very true, actual interaction with a person is better than just talking to that person and asking them to tell you about themselves. Show me who you are, don't tell me who you are.
