characters
It's hard to situate ourselves in the lives that we see on television. The characters may seem like they're evolving as the new generations in the real world, but writers are stuck in a melodramatic world that involves people who never drive into different facets of who they are. High school students are changing and figuring out more about themselves everyday and kids on screen are not there to portray the importance. Screenwriters really do need to have a week or month in the life of a student in the present era and see what we deal with.
