Law of diminishing returns

I have far too many hobbies. I admit it, and continue to pick up more along the way as i wander aimlessly through life. When we buy things though, half the time, we look to upgrade. But where do we draw the line? Upgrades are upgrades, which tend to be part of the fun of our hobbies, but where do we draw the line between exorbitant pricing and reasonably priced? Many of the high-priced items we buy are priced as such for quality and workmanship (or so we tell ourselves) when really we're just feeding our own egos, feeding our need to keep up with the Joneses and not be left behind. As we head towards the ceiling and clouds beyond, astronomical prices become commonplace, and I continue to stop myself to ponder "where does it all end?" Am i not satisfied with my current setup, my current equipment? Rarely will we be able to provide a clear-cut reason for why we feel this need to upgrade, but that's rarely enough to stop us from looking for the next best thing, as we all attempt to scale back our spending though that simple-sounding task is difficult.
