Good Roomates

What makes a good roommate? I have had a new roommate almost every semester that I have been here at Stony Brook...freshmen year I dormed with friends from high school for the whole year which turned out to be a huge mistake...it is definitely hard to live with friends you have already established relationships with...I am the type of roommate who is never in the room and only uses it to sleep and shower and occasionally watch television if my busy schedule will allow it...so I don't know if that makes me a good roommate or not...I am never there so they get all the space and privacy they want...heck...its like living in a single...the sophomore year rolls around and I am rooming with a basketball player and she was the sweetest thing in the world...she would get upset that I wasn't around as much as if I didn't want to be around her but the truth is was that I was never comfortable with hanging out in my room and was always at other people's places doing work and hanging out or in classes..I look at my room as a place of peace and somewhere I can turn to for sleep and peace and quiet...sometimes I just want to sit in my room and not talk and just listen to music and tune out my roommate...isn't the best roommate the kind of roommate that leaves you alone and lets you do your own thing...I feel like I have this pattern of being very neglectful of my roommate because I am never there and they always express the feeling that they want to see me more and the truth is sometimes I just can't...its funny how the world works...I wish I was there more in my room but my room as always been a place to sleep and thats it and occassionally for work...oh well..maybe I am just a bad roommate...

  1. Everyone is different. You are not a bad roommate, you're just busy with school work and don't have time. I am rarely in my room but I feel I am still a good roommate. Me and my roommate have been friends since high school and we dormed together freshman year too. We had no problems. You're not a bad roommate.
