health and safety

the other day was health and safety inspections for my building. I live in the west apartments on campus. The other week we had a building meeting on what you are not "allowed" to have in your room. One of the items that created great disturbance in at the meeting was a toaster. In the past we were allowed to have a toaster in our kitchen, but now because of 3 incidents over the summer with a fire because of a toaster on campus we are not allowed to have one! I mean common, we live in an apartment which you pay way more for than a regular dorm room and you have to have a good gpa to get in, and we live pretty far away from campus than other dorms why are they treating us like this. This is an apartment and we should be about to have some luxuries. For example my friend brought a tv stand and a big bean bag chair. All those things need to be approved and has to be given a permit by the the RHD. It is not like there is no room in the suite causing a fire hazard, I don't understand why we have to get rid of these items. Plus I brought lights for the suite because there is one center light on the ceiling for the living room and dining room together. And now you are only "allowed" to have lights on xmas trees. And for wall decorations such as a tapestry, which we have, it cannot cover more than 1/3 of the wall. Like seriously? whatever. I say "allowed" because we all know that once inspections come around everyone hides their unapproved items and then take them back out when inspections are over. I just needed to rant this out somewhere. thanks for listening.
