Yea, I haven't been on in a while but now I founded a little free time to finish my own personal project. That project being to discuss the rest of the emotion spectrum and therefore the rest of the lights or lanterns, that exist within the Green Lantern Universe (I love comics). So far green lantern/willpower, yellow lanterns/fear and the red lanterns/rage has been discussed now its' time to shed light on the orange lanterns and the emotion it represents which is avarice.
Unlike the others blogs about the Lanterns i will not start with a quote (because this one lacks a quote) instead I will ask a question: How do the Orange Lantern Corps exist when the source of its' power is avarice (greed)? It's something to think about, with all the other lanterns they draw their power from the same source, so in a way they share a common power and share the source of it. One who is filled with greed wouldn't want to share such power instead he would want it all to himself and thus that is how the story goes. This corps is composed of one being, who controls all the power/light of avarice, the orange light. His corps is made up of the dead bodies of beings who throughout the century tried to take that power away from him and failed. Now he use their bodies as puppets to form his corps, which number in the thousands like all the other corps. In a world where he doesn't want to share his power he remains, lonely.
Avarice is present all over the world, it can be argued its' the cause of wars and conflicts. People want what doesn't belongs to them, they want what others have, everyone wants to be on top, to me famous, to be respected, to be feared, to be worshipped; in short people want power and stauts, but they want it to belong to them and them alone. The motivation behind this is greed, people thirst for power and the more one receieves the less they are willing to share and the more they want. Greed is one of those tricky emotions that comes in many forms, it comes in so many forms its' almost impossible to not be selfish in some shape, form or fashion. For many its' their only motivation, for all of us it a little part of our motivations or ambitious. Everyone wants more of something whether is be materialistic like money, not tangible like love or something else all together. To have desires like this isn't a fault but when one is consumed by avarice in this way, it becomes harmful. it is so easy for avarice to ease from our desires, this is where envy and obsessions arise from. Its' not only easy but conveint, in many ways we justify our own avarice. Just thnk about it, how many times you refuse to offer something of yours because you didn't want to share, because you didn't feel like it whether it be a item, a service or just your time
